On Wednesday, September 17, 2025 The Jimmy Kimmel Show was "indefinitely stopped" from being aired. Two days prior, show host Jimmy Kimmel satirically commented his perspective of how supporters of the president handled the passing of Charlie Kirk and characterized his murder.

Having an online presence requires a swift yet careful tongue. As much as I love intelligent, thoughtful conversation, I wonder how many thoughts are missed when politeness is first in every discussion. When media that is intended to be humorous, or strictly entertainment is forced on eggshells in fear of cancellation.

Jimmy commented, "We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it."

Quickly after, Brendan Carr, chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, has spoken his opinion on the type of speech used, placing ominous threats on ABC and Disney for its content. Within hours of Carr's statements, the show was off of air and streaming platforms.

There was support and outrage, displayed both online and in-person about the actions of Disney and the role of the FCC in this interaction. After about a week's back and forth, Disney announced that Jimmy Kimmel will return tonight, Tuesday September 23, 2025.

For most, the conflict brought a larger conversation of the ever growing scrutiny of free speech in the nation.

In the past years, one of the pillars of President Donald Trump's campaign was free expression and speech. Just months ago, President Trump promised in his Inaugural address to end government action that restricts free speech.

"After years and years of illegal and unconstitutional federal efforts to restrict free expression, I also will sign an executive order to immediately stop all government censorship and bring back free speech to America."

It has been exciting to see some back-handed alignment between both left and right leaning parties. It serves a good reminder that on a foundational level, the left and the right both still at least acknowledge some commonalities of the United States of America's founding principals.

Love and Light,

Kadaysha
